Renewing the mind is not necessarily achieved by proactive self-improvement, or cognitive counseling approaches when there has been trauma and trauma imprints that trigger unhealthy patterns and triggers.Standard counseling approaches, while beneficial in various aspects, sometimes do not yield desired results for patients that have unaddressed historical traumas of various kinds, even after an extended period of time, because traumatic memories are not typically held in the conscious awareness and the unconscious mind will often "highjack" conscious attempts to achieve self-improvement.
